To most beginners, craps is one very confusing game. If it were as simple as rolling two dice on a big table, with no rules and only two betting options, then there would be no mystery. Unfortunately, that is not the case. However, craps can be an easy game to learn for those new to the craps table. And when it comes to winning, luck is not the only factor. Well, let's take a closer look at this game. Naturally, as with any other game, there are rules. Don't expect to win if you don't know the rules. We can all see that craps does involve rolling a pair of dice. The dice have dots on each of six sides representing six numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. So, the pair being rolled will lead to a number between 2 and 12. As chance would have it, certain numbers show up more often than others. This is due to the number of ways to make a given number. There are more ways to make the number 7, so 7 is more likely to show up than any other number. The 7 can either win for you on a come-out roll, or lose if you have established a point number already. The players take turns rolling the dice, with the person rolling the dice being called the shooter. If the shooter rolls a 7 or 11 initially, the shooter and all those that made a Pass Line bet win. If the shooter rolls a 2, 3, or 12 initially, than the shooter and all those that made a Pass Line bet lose. Either way, the shooter still gets to continue rolling the dice. If the shooter rolls a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, this establishes the shooter's point number. The winning object is to roll this point number again, before rolling the number 7. If the shooter wins a point number, the shooter continues to roll the dice. If the shooter loses on a point number (rolls a 7 before repeating a point number), then the shooter must stop shooting the dice, which will go to the next shooter in line. Now that you know the basics of playing craps, let's dig a little deeper into how to win at craps. To begin with, the bet with the least odds against you, which is virtually, no odds against you, is the Odds bet. Wow, that sentence sure had a lot of odds, didn't it? In other words, the casino's advantage on an Odds bet is next to nothing. Once a shooter establishes a point number, if you have a bet on the Pass Line, you can make what is called an Odds bet. The Odds bet combined with the Pass Line bet, gives the casino less than a 1% advantage. With that having been said, your goal should be to set some guidelines for your play. The most important being, set a limit for how much you are willing to lose and how much you are willing to win and walk away with. Just make sure the amount you lose is less than you can reasonably expect to win. Once you have these limits established, stick to them. Never let your emotions control your better judgment. From this point forward, your objective is to start small, gradually build your bankroll, and eventually use the casino's money to play with. Always focus on winning more money when you win and losing less money when you lose. Never bet on the Field, or any of the other proposition bets on the table. If you do, you are really just asking for trouble, and with trouble come losses. Pay attention to the shooters at the casino. If you see a confident and consistent shooter, then make sure you are betting with this shooter. On the other hand, if you notice shooters that are nervous and lack consistency, you are better off betting against these shooters.
